On Thursday, July 23, the LA Metro board voted unanimously to move forward with adding a public transit rider to their ranks. SAJE staff and members of the Transit Committee were there to give public comments in support of their “yes” vote. 

SAJE is happy about the outcome of Thursday’s vote, though we understand this new rider-member won’t be joining the board anytime soon. (Ultimately, any changes to the board will require approval from state legislators.) What last week’s vote did was get a process started: the LA Metro board approved a motion that directs Metro staff to begin coordinating with stakeholder groups to determine eligibility requirements and a selection process for the new board member. 

Metro staff will present their recommendations to the board in a few months. In the meantime our Transit Committee hopes to provide input on these critical decisions.
