We at Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE) believe that the repeal of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) by the Department of Justice is a regressive and detrimental action against the very communities that continue to make our nation great . We are outraged, upset, and disappointed at the shortsightedness of this decision from Washington. More than 800,000 DACA recipients face an uncertain future as their ability to support themselves and their families is taken away. Many residents across Los Angeles are recipients of DACA which has enabled them to build a solid foundation for themselves and their families. That foundation is now threatened.
At SAJE, our mission is to change corporate and public policy in ways that improve the economic rights of working class people. Being deprived of the ability to work in the formal economy strips workers of important rights and negates the investment we as a society have made in their training and education. The decision to repeal DACA is a public policy blunder that is as boneheaded as it is heartless.
We are committed to shift power and change lives through healthy housing and community-oriented land use policies. We will continue to empower tenants, advocate for affordable housing, and create economic opportunities where they are needed the most for low-income residents in a way that acknowledges and supports the realities of Los Angeles. We will continue to build better neighborhoods with our same neighbors.
Stand with us in building a better tomorrow for all of Los Angeles families.
